Launching a sex ed platform co-created with and for young people

YLab’s Asking for a Friend is the first U.S. sex-ed platform co-created alongside young people.
From a feature article to social media content and a media relations strategy, we collaborated with global design and research organization YLabs to launch an integrated communications campaign. Together, we:
- Amplified visibility for Asking for a Friend.
- Established YLabs’ youth-powered expertise in the U.S.
- Galvanized young people to use the sex ed platform.
Framing the narrative around press freedom

Ahead of the 2024 U.S. elections, the International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) wanted to make the case for investing in diverse reporting.
From physical and online violence to state-sponsored threats, real risks endanger reporters everywhere — and women and nonbinary journalists are disproportionately impacted.
Working alongside the IWMF’s communications department and executive leadership, we wrote all copy for the IWMF’s 2023 Impact Report. The style, tone, and content reinforced the organization as the go-to voice on safeguarding press freedom.
Working to eliminate patriarchal violence

1 in 3 women will experience sexual violence in their lifetime.
Harnessing learnings from our bonobos cousins, the Bonobo Sisterhood Alliance (BSA)’s tools, training, and legal aid equip women and girls everywhere to work toward ending sexual violence – for good.
Alongside BSA Founder, we delivered an audience mapping to strategically revamp The Bonobo Sisterhood Alliance’s messaging, web copy, and website. The goal? Position the Alliance as the premier voice on eradicating patriarchal violence.
Expanding youth contraceptive access

Global health NGO Population Services International won funding to reimagine how young people could choose contraception in Nigeria, Ethiopia and Tanzania.
The goal? Influence target audiences to replicate the project’s approach and/or increase funding for the work.
From establishing the project’s foundational messaging to developing human interest stories , thought leadership and docu-videos, the multi-year communications campaign focused on distilling technical learnings.
And it worked. The project secured additional five-year funding, and expanded its work to Kenya.

Making Shiatsu known
Despite demand for holistic health, Japanese-based Shiatsu is too often missing from the energy healing conversation.
Alongside Five Lights Center of Shiatsu in NYC‘s Grandmaster Kumiko Kanayama, we’re shaping the narrative to answer: what Shiatsu is and why it’s relevant, today. We’re combining earned, owned, and paid approaches to make Shiatsu known — all while increasing foot traffic to Five Lights Center.
Shameless plug: if you’re looking to bring your body back to balance, The Five Lights Center of Shiatsu in NYC is well worth your visit.

“Emma helped me and my organization at its most critical moment.
After asking insightful questions to understand my goals and the context, Emma came back to me with a crisis communication plan that was thorough, thoughtful, and clear. Beyond her expertise, what makes Emma a wonderful communications consultant is her empathy.
Emma held my hand with compassion and kindness while pulling us out of challenges. Years later, I am still grateful to have worked with her.”
